Ministries

Fundraisers and service projects:

We're a congregation that gets things done, helping members, friends, and the community. We regularly gather items and collections for distribution, have an active blanket making group (the Piecemakers) that frankly could use some help if you can use scissors and tie a knot, and we keep prepared meals on hand (our POPIns ministry). We work on Habitat builds and at Habitat ReStore and generally seek to do our best to be a part of "God's Work: Our Hands" as the Holy Spirit directs.

 

Education:

We have have been rebuilding Sunday School, with good adult participation and a regular crew of young children. We plan some additional educational events in the near future. For many years, our POPOvers group gathered to listen to speakers on a variety of topics. We are in the process of re-launching educational events such as hosting speakers.

 

Music:

The community at large is rich in musical talent and we are so blessed in worship music leadership at POP. Our organist and music director is the versatile Ellen Wakeford-Banks, a veteran of the regional music scene. We have a young children's choir, led by Lindsey Dancker, a small occasional choir, and solo singers,. If you are looking for a gig for your calling to make music for God, please join us - there are volunteer openings for sure. We occasionally have guest musicians and singers who enhance our worship. We are also planning more children's music participation opportunities.

 

Our facilities are a ministry:

While not a big church building, POP's building and grounds are used for gatherings of families and local groups, an NA meeting, and outdoor basketball. We have a nice open pavilion where people simply gather, or where we have picnics and receptions. Looking for space for your group? Ask!

 

Fellowship:

We like to get together as a POP family and with community friends, including our sisters and brothers at our sponsoring congregation of Martin Luther in Youngstown.
